I got a shipment of plants this week (thx mgamer2000)...trying to get it all organized (what a task)...anyway....I have several little things floating on the top of the water that look like bean sprouts (small little leaf type of thing at the top and either a small root or stem hanging down). is this an actual "baby" plant and if so...what would it possibly be?

just don't want to take the net and swoop things out that should be left.

thx

no pix yet. it does kinda look like that but much smaller.

Duckweed?

It isn't actually as big as the picture she posted. If it looks anything like that it's duckweed. Seeing as MG has duckweed in his tanks, I will bet that that is what it is.

mgamer2000 has duckweed. He has mentioned it many times. This is probably what you have. It is nice stuff, but will take over the surface of your tank in no time. If you like it, just use your net and thin it out once in awhile. If you don't like it, get rid of it now. Once it starts multiplying it will be almost impossible to get rid of.

thx....so this is a top dwelling plant i take it? only the roots are under the surface? and is this a good idea to keep around with a planted/fishie aquarium?

yep.
I love my duckweed. just make sure you don't let it completely take over, or your other plants won't get any light ;)
