how many mbuna african cichlids can i put in a 29 gallon tank? (dimensions 30 1/4 x 12 1/2 x 18 3/4). right now they are still the really small "baby" size you can by in stores that are 1/2" to 1" long. I have 5 in there right now. can i add a group of 3 or 4 more or even more than that? i want to grow them up big enough to put into my 55 that has 3 large african mbunas in it right now (about 4-5" long).

None, it's too small for the proper M/F ratio and adequate space.

Well, for a short term grow out, you will probably be okay. What kind do you have specifically?

red zebra, 2 kenyii, 1 socoloffi, 1 albino zebra that probably won't make it because his tail end has been bit off already.....yikes!

you all would just die if i told you how many africans i have in my 29g! but it was not intentional, I had just three but when our local FS burned i ended up with well, too many to count! they are doing good and it's temporary ( I hope) They do tend to grow pretty quick but you may be able to get a few more in there since you will be moving them.
