Cichlid mating

I am a new cichlid owner and my girlfriend and I are having an argument about the mating rituals of our fish. I was hoping some one could help clear this up for us. We know that there is a marking on the fish that resembles teh females egg, is the marking near the face or is it the white spots near the tails? :confused:

Usually they're called "egg-spots" and they're near the tail. (analfin)
