do they make a sensor alarm for aquariums...i want something to go off if im sleeping or something in case my display tanks decides to overflow so i can catch it in time...it would be great if it sent me a text on my phone so i can send someone to fix it lol but that obviously not possible..does ne one know of nething that i could do this with...especially on the cheaper side

Edit: one that when it goes off will shut the pump off as well...that would b ideal...it dosent even have to make a noise just if the tank is gonna overflow the pump will shut off

It isn't an alarm but you might want to check into a float switch

I'm not the plumbing guru in my house, that would be my son. However, it seems if you mark the maximum fill line on your sump and then use a good overflow box and U tube you'll not risk flooding. My overflow automatically breaks the siphon if the water is below the little teeth the water flows into. And then the overflow box itself has another safety with the way it made (it has a second chamber in it).

that not the problem, see my pump is to strong...my ball valve is cranked to all but the fully closed position and for one its kinda noisy nothing unbareable and two its all but impossible to get them to match...i thought i had it last night and then next thing i know i wake up and its all but flooded...and tonight it seems to be better then last night but i still dont know if i should leave it on all night..its so hard to trust it

Ah, our pump is very strong as well...we've had success so far with the ball valve. I am out of my element when recommending good plumbing solutions. Have you thought about a second u-tube to help increase the flow on the overflow?

i did try it but everytime i do it seems to get a huge bubble in the top of it and only allows some water through ...that or the hose i use to start it ends up sucking up water (i had a good dose of saltwater in my mouth twice trying it) so idk...like tonight my sump was running for hours but it always seem to rise a little bit...not much but small enough im afraid if i let it go for 6-8 hours while im sleeping it will overflow and i dont wanna chance it ...especially since my good timer is laying on the floor which i need to rearrange all my wiring so i can get it out of waters way in case of overflow but havent gotten there yet but overflow either way sucks

You might try posing a question in the DIY forum. Something like:

DIY ideas for keeping my sump from overflowing in the subject and then explain what you've experienced in the message. Although I read all the marine forums I've found that some in the DIY forum don't always read the newbie forum.

That DIY line I sent you for Melevs should work, there are other links on the net that also explain it in greater detail.. How it works is you have the float in the tank, when the water rises to a specific point it shuts down the electricity. YOu have the extention cord plugged into the wall and your pump plugged into the extention cord that is wired to the float. I am in the process of creating an auto-top off system for my tanks using this same idea.
