Having a minor problem. I have had 3 Chromis for a while now, and there has always been a lot of love between them.

Yesterday I noticed one was laying low for a while, and that he had a minor injury on his side. Let him go for a while and monitored him.

Anyway after monitoring him for a while I have noticed every time he is in view of the other Chromis they dart towards him and try to beat him up, and then he retreats again. Like I said, they have been around each other for a fair amount of time now and have always been very peaceful with each other and all other inhabitants.

What's the deal? Anybody seen this before?

Yep...everyone who hasn't owned chromies says they school together and are always peaceful, but everyone i've heard who has kept chromies for any amount of time has noticed the same trait you just mentioned...usually they weed out singles until there are only one or two left.

Mine went from 5 to 2. ;)

Well I might transfer him to my other tank.

Thanks for the help mate!

What about CPD, I thought in one message they had like 15 or 16 of them in their new larger tank... Are yours doing that?

I'd personally not have a group smaller than 5. I do hear however to have a group of 5 you probably want to start with 7 or 9. 3 doesn't spread out the aggression enough.

I started with 5, and now have one. I won't be getting any more. He's mean, mean, mean. No more damsels for me, chromis or not. I never saw them school, even when they were the only 5 fish in the tank... :(

I had a couple that were extremely aggressive. So I ordered extra large chromis from Live Aquaria and they calmed the hell down. He still challenges my flame angel, but he gets put in his place.

****....and I was going to get a small group of them for my first fish. I'm still leaning towards them, but I've seen more negative than positive about them.
