Out tank was overfull because of the fire at our LFS it is a 75g, but we ended up buying anouther 55g to put the blood parrots in to relieve the tank and because we decided that we will keep the parrots, but my jag had turned real dark from the stress of overstocking? i am presuming, anyway, since we put the other fish in the other tank he has remained dark. I am wondering if there may be something else going on with him or if maybe they start getting darker or lighter with age or ??. any thoughts would be apperciated.

more then likely thats its dominance display. jags are mean and parrots will be killed easily by them

How big is the jag? My 11 inch male Jag changes colors everynow and then. The only fish he shares a tank with is a large pleco. I have heard that they change dark colors under stress or when they are the less dominate fish in the tank. A jags mood can change quickly so I would keep an I on him/her. They can easily tear apart a blood parrot.

ok, well he is the less dominate fish in the tank right now, he is only about 41/2 to 5", still a baby and in a tank with a parachromis luisellei twice his size,. one day soon, he will have his own tank. he is the fish on my avatar.

oh, as a note, when the blood parrots were in that tank, he never bothered them, fenny huh?

nice pic of your jag. i had one several years ago for a while. he was a mean little sucker! i liked him a lot! but my oscar you see pictured to the left is my baby and he has been my baby for 7 years now. like everyone else has said: dominance, stress, or a combination of the two. the blood parrots probably weren't in there long enough to really get their butts kicked. the jag would have done it eventually though, i can assure you. he was just stressed and trying to figure things out, then you took him and put him in a different tank: a very wise move on your part. the only fish i've ever had that was meaner than a jag was a black belt cichlid, and that thing kicked my oscar's butt so bad i had to take him back within 24 hours of buying him. he would act real polite when the tank light was on. then when the light went out, he'd turn into a ninja, man. the next morning i turned the light on my tank on and my oscar was nicked all up and down his body, and the black belt cichlid just looked at me like.......hmmmm, nothing to see here. i'm just minding my own business.....yeah, right......took his butt to the fish store for a refund immediately. nobody messes with tony like that ( my oscar).

LOL funny story! I like your saying on the bottom, thats really the trueth! we started with one 12g tank about 7 months ago, now we have 11 tanks, well 12 but ones not ours. As a matter of fact, the local newspaper is coming to our house tonight to do a story on all our tanks, i guess we have a lot of tanks?? is there such a thing?? lol anyways thanks.

yeah, he was looking a little better this morning, i am really glad, he's my fav of all our fish running a close second is my rescue baby, a red top zebra male i have dubbed "Milo". Thanks for all your help and funny stories!
