i got this really nice piece of driftwood the other day to set up in my brand new 20, but it now has this weird translucent film in seemingly random places, but in a lot of places. is this normal? more importantly is it bad? all the fish are fine (save one dead endler, she was by herself and not well anyway, not a terrible loss).
anyway, should i be worried? i really don't wanna tear it down just to clean the driftwood

thanks

its normal.. it will eventually cover the whole driftwood piece and then it will disappear and algae will likely grow in its place.

My ram horned snails absolutely loved the slimy gray stuff. I could see tracks like little lawn mowers and poop. Lasted about three weeks after they got after it. Now the wood looks great and I got some loaches to control the smaller snails.
