so i got off of work after having a really bad day to find out that one of the red legs i just got was ripped to shreds...im assuming my wrasse did it...so now i think im getting rid of the wrasse and the clown...one casue the wrasse is obviously eating my hermits (no wonder i havent seen ne of em) and i want to get a mated pair of percs(i think) so i dont want ne of the clowns fighting so yea now i gotta find someone in my club to take em...what a day...to make matters worse i still cant my sump to work perfectly and my protein skimmer is acting up...what a day what a day what a day!!

What kind of wrasse is it? Are you sure its not a molt?

im not sure what a molt is...and its a yellow tail coris wrasse...hes still a juvi
I'm guessing it is a molt Emo. ( I feel like I'm calling you an emo kid when I say that). The first time you see a crab or shrimp molt it can be startling. The exoskeletons are amazingly complete. Give it a few days, the crabs will hide when they first molt because they are more vulnerable. I'm guessing you'll discover the crab is alive and well after a few days. Unless well...one of your other hermits offed it for it's shell. =)

what exactly does it mean or do? and now its gone...i dont knwo where it went one second it was there the next its not? i still think the wrasse got him cause he likes to stick his head in some of the empty shells i have
You know how a snake will shed it's skin? Pretty much the same thing. When a crab or shrimp does it looks like a little clone, pretty much in tact until your tank stock starts getting rid of it. One way to tell for certain is to pick it up and squeeze it. If it is hollow it is the exoskeleton (molt).

Emo, I was sure my crab had died or met a similar demise. I was puzzled though because I couldn't find the shell. A couple days later, he was back and eating on his favorite rock. He had molted, leaving a full body that looked like he had died, and ran off to let hiself heal. Can you find his shell anywhere? Is there another shell missing?
