DIY Center Brace... some "problems"

I just got my center brace all glued into place, and its working very well, and holding without issue so far.

Gorilla Glue is the most amazing stuff I have ever seen.

That aside, my perfecto lid is sitting on top of the brace.
the part where the light sits, is resting on top of the brace not allowing the lid to seat properly.

I dont know what I can do about this, but after taking a second look, im not sure the brace was needed anyway. The glass (im pretty sure) was never bowing to begin with. it was the rim on the hood bending inwards, making it appear as if the glass were bowing.

anyway, I dont want a wobbly lid on the tank, any ideas what I could do about this short of removing the brace?

I don't understand how a center brace that is *Glued* on is going to help anything imo. If the weight of the water will break the tank or bow it outward it would certainly unseal your glue I would think.

Why did you think a Center Brace was needed? If you don't need it, maybe you can just remove it.

Otherwise you might consider a new lid, like a Glass Canopy. That shouldn't cost to much, and will be more likely to fit.
 
Glue another brace perpendicular to the original...Much like a T.

please read the post again, you will find the reason why I thought a brace was needed, in the post.

Whats wrong with glue?
when the bond formed is stronger than the piece of plastic itself, then the glue is doign its job, and isnt going to break.
 
could you shave the brace down any?

that could be messy and complicated.. but a dremmel tool could do the trick. it might make the brace a little weaker.
 
Or maybe put a strip of the same plastic along each end of the tank to kind of prop up the hood. I'm not sure if I understand the problem correctly, but that might do the trick.

the hood would sit lower than the brace, resulting in me having to shave it completely in half :)

I was thinkin about this... might be a worthwhile idea.

just not sure what to use.... as you can see, I dont like things that look like it was just a half ***ed job being done. :D:D
 
Or maybe instead of shaving the brace, use a dremel and just shave off the part of the hood over the brace that hangs down too low? Since its on teh underside you'd never see it, and the hood would still be at its normal height.
 
What about making a small cut (like a slot) in the lid? Is there enough material on top so that you could cut it without it showing? That would solve the issue too without having to add more glass.
