Still praying the fith is alive and well. Since I could not figure out what killed them I added on a sponge filter to help them cope with possible breathing problems that this illness seems to cause.
I realize treating the cause of an illness and not the symptoms is not the right way to go...but when you don't know the cause, what else can you do?.
Hope they recover from what whatever disease they have. I have some meds here if needed, but without a clue what's wrong them just leaving them in the tank. Hppefully just one was sick.

Is there something that keeps them from going into the HOB filter (if you have an HOB filter)? I did have two kuhlis once, and I think one of them got stucked into the HOB filter, if not that, possibly jumped out.

Anyways, I hope that you do find the 5th one and that you enjoy the kuhlis as they can be a lot of fun to watch their personalities :)

I've got an internal filter/fluval 1. They are a lot of fun...besides the issue that my tank may not be large enough depending on sources, I think I picked the perfect fish. I especially like when they hide and poke their heads out to look.

Yes I'm working on covering my filter intake...In the meantime I figured since they might have breathing problems I had to keep running it.

There shouldn't be water quality spikes since it's an established tank not a new setup cycling.

Do you think my filter is not powerful enough for the amount of kuhli loaches I originally had( which was six)?.
I'm hate to keep the extra sponge filter going beyond getting the KLs to recover as it's quite noisy. Course if they keep needing it, I'll keep it running until I get a better solution.

Trying to tackle the issue of the filter opening, would a piece of regular commerical sponge do it?...or would that be toxic?.
