Found something strange in my sump

I was looking in my sump this evening and saw something that I had noticed before but figured it wasn't anything really and didn't give it a second thought. But today.. Wow..

I really can't get a picture because, well its a sump and the acrylic really isn't that clean, but its caught in the bubble trap set of baffles between my protein skimmer and my return areas. It looks like a large cotton ball and it has almost tripled in size since I last noticed it. Its white to off white in coloration and hasn't moved. Its just there at the bottom of the bubble trap..

Ideas?

A sponge maybe?

I'll say sponge as well. Probably a 'pineapple' sponge if I had to guess since those seem to pop up out of nowhere frequently.
