If your tank is new (less than a year) I wouldn't worry about it, it will go away. And if its older than that, I would be looking into the cause of it rather than just trying to cover it up.
Your red leg hermits aren't taking care of it?

slowly but surely yea...but i still want a goby to stir the sand up a little bit and dont most of em eat left over food and stuff.....my hermits are mostly taking care of the algea i got and the snails are cleaning the glass and some parts of the rock...they are just really slow at it....but im going tomorrow to the store and i kinda wanted some PO on what to get

I had a pair of these that sifted the sand well http://www.thatpetplace.com/pet/group/2212/product.web
I've currently got one of these by the looks of it but I've never heard it called a ladder glider! I know it as a six spot sleeper goby http://www.thatpetplace.com/pet/group/18307/product.web. Again very good for sifting the sand.

I have one of these, it was my first stock other than snails http://www.thatpetplace.com/pet/group/18278/product.web
He is comical to watch and will sift the top layer of sand. He will do more than eat leftovers too by the way. Mine is an assertive eater at feeding time.

My golden headed isn't commical (well he is when moving shells around the tank), but he keeps the sand stirred up thats for sure..
Although the new Pygmy is moving in on his territory and I don't think he is to happy about it.. Instead of sitting in his digout, he has been using the back entrance and sitting where the pygmy decided to call home.. Now thats comical...
Peace.. And Good Luck..
