A friend for this guy?

I recently got a 12 gallon Nano. There's a Nemo from the hood in there and my wife has brought it up on multiple occations that we should get a friend for him (a homey if you will).

Any suggestions? Can I get another Clown fish? Or would the bioload be too high?

I was thinking a Red Cleaner Shrimp (sorry, don't know the technical name).

There is no guarantee that the clowns will pair up but Fred's advice to get one smaller is good. I'd also stick to the same kind, different species of them will fight.

You could also get various other nano sized fish. Firefish, gobies, etc.

The shrimp is a good idea too and are there any snails in there? I'd get some if you don't have any.

Before that though? I'd get some more rock. It will not only help with your aquascaping but it will help feel more secure. Bonus...your shrimp will also set up a cleaning station if it has rock as well.
