I just got a great deal on "Aqualab Toxic Ammonia Test Strips" on ebay, problem is a have a freshwater tank and did not realize these state "salt water", what do you think? Can I use them? I am cycling a new tank and thought it would be an easy way to watch the ammonia.

My guess is that if the label states "saltwater" on it you cannot use it for freshwater. I personally think you should always use test kits with the liquid drops and to use the same brand for each test: ammonia, nitrite, pH, etc... My personal favorites are Hagen and Tetra kits. They seem pretty accurate and easier to read. I always have trouble getting exact readings off strips.

I have a dr wellfish test kit, you know the standard fill to line pour in 8 drops of solution #1 and 8 drops of solution number two..ect,ect,ect.... well anyway it has two reading cards, the colors and chemestry is different between salt water and fresh water, you probably could use it if you had a accurate color reading for fresh water, but your results will not be accurate against a salt water scale.
