Lately I've been noticing some chewing on my anubias nana plants. The suspects are:
-1 3.5" SAE
-3 otos
-20 amano shrimp
-1 3" bamboo shrimp
-3 clown loaches
-12 cardinal tetras
-6 lambchop rasboras(hengili)
-2 harlequin rasboras
-3 blue rams
-3 threadfin rainbows
-3 spotted blue eyes
-2 endler's livebearers
-1 dwarf frog
-bunch o' MTS

Can someone help me solve this mystery? Thanks,

Scott

Thanks for the replies!

Yes, the nibbles seem to be out of the middle of the blade. I haven't noticed any of my other plants being chewed(yet). I love my clowns so I guess I'll live with it. I bought my Endler's at a LFS in Tampa. They are available at some LFS' here in Florida frequently lately. Finding a female is difficult to impossible though. I guess the breeders want to control the market some. I've heard that they will breed with some female guppies if one wants some mutants. They are very attractive fish, especially under brighter lighting. I'm going to get 1-2 more later this week sometime.

OMG! I noticed that on my Nana the other day and was wondering. And yes I have clown loaches, I never would of guessed.

He's not interested in really eating Anubias leaves: "He only does it to annoy/ Because he knows it teases"*

Asahi Toro, don't give in to the temptation of spoiling wonderful Endler's Livebearer by breeding them to guppy females. Try a www.google.com search: " Endler's-livebearer " for the interesting scoop on keeping the genetics of this endangered Venezuelan Poecilia from being needlessly trashed. You can get the true females there in Florida.

Thanks for the reply wetman,

No, I have no interest in breeding the Endler's, I was just relaying what I have read. I'm happy with the males that I have. If I did want to breed them, I would get a true Endler's female so that I wouldn't spoil the strain any. The females that I have seen are a lot bigger and actually quite dull looking. I don't have the tank space to be breeding any livebearers.

Thanks odessa,

If I need some females, I'll look you up. I'm surprised that it may be the Endler's. I only have two and those guys are tiny. The damage to my anubias looks like a bigger fish(clowns) may be doing it. I haven't noticed any chomping on my java ferrn yet. I'll keep an eye on the Endler's though. Thanks.

I have been looking around Manhattan for some Endlers but I have been unsuccessful in my search. I have become quite fond of the little fish and would love to breed them. If anyone knows of a place in Manhattan where I can find some, I would greatly appreciate the help. Thanks.

Try aquabid.com. Almost always some listed on there.

Wow! punch and wetmanNY on the same thread! Good to see you back! (Though you probably weren't really gone) :D

I concur with the loaches being the culprits. Mine would chew the new growth, but only 1/2 way so the leaf would grow in looking like...something ate the other half  . And when I put holes in my fake stump (their fav hiding spot) and threaded the roots through, they nibbled them down too. "Sigh", now I have to set up ANOTHER tank to keep them in. (wife = :mad2 )

I also agree with wetman one keeping the strain pure. Just my 2 cents!
