After you treat a week using no act. carbon, and do the WC after day 7, can you treat again for another week? Has anyone done this? Am treatinga cory and his barbels are growing back, but still an open sore on his nose. It looks like it wants to close, but not sure if treating another week is recommended. Only serious answers please.

The instructions say:
"After 7 days , make a 25% water change. Treatment can be continued if necessary".
Btw, I would be trying something else if the 7 days treatment did't have any effect on the sore.

If its a "soar" clean water is really all you need. Melafix will certainly accelerate the growth, but the soar should have shown signs of improvement such as shrinkage, or reduction of swelling, etc.
As you stated, "it looks like it wants to close" is a very good sign. Typically, loss fins and soft tissue take 3-4 weeks to regrow completely if the cause is removed. It sounds like you are doing well, and I would continue.
P.S.
Don't be afraid to continue with your PWCs, just redose the lost concentrations of Melafix. ;)

does the sore/wound/abrasion have anything that looks like an infection?
this is where melafix/pimafix comes in handy as it helps creat an environement where bacteria have problems establishing.
I do agree tho that clean water can help the sore/wound heal..you ma also look to see what may have caused this as it may still be an issue.

i have used this method and if the sores weren't too progressed they should heal just fine..
every now and then i see my cories with a sore, i have a heavey planted tank, so i can't vac the gravel where they are planted and of course this is where they hide..
so they are in contact with more nasties than the fish are..:headshake2:

he isnt eating, i keep trying to get him to eat. then i have to change the water because it just rots at the bottom. good to know i can keep adding the melafix though, because it does seem to work. just didnt know how long I could carry on with dosing the tank without the carbon. it has been a week and a couple days now. so i will keep dosing. he is doing better, just wish he would eat.

i dont know if it looks like an infection. i will post a picture so you can see. it is a pretty large open sore but it is better than it used to be. he is still pitiful acting though. i will try to take a clear picture.

Here are a few pictures
He is in the tank with the pink rocks now. I scooted the rocks over so he had something smoother to lay on.

I have killed more fish with melefix and pimafix than I have cured. I also learned that it becomes toxic when exposed to light. They don't say that on the bottle but Dr. Joe at MFK found the info on their web site.
If it seemed to help, yes, you can do another treatment. Just do a larger water change than the recommended 25% to get out the old stuff.

i dont believe that for a second, i add both to my all my tanks in much smaller dosees, even when there isnt hurt fish. and most of these arent hardy fish, like puffers, loaches, rare cats. all scaleless too.
as well as almost every other aquarist i know (in the hundreds)
its the only meds we swear by.
even if you dumped the whole bottle in you couldnt kill anything.

if you killed them they can smother if you add too much.. you need heavey airation with this.. or the injury was too bad..
