This 10 gal tank has been together for a couple months. The hairy green algae has gotten progreively worse in the past month and is now threaining my favorite polyp. Everything is growing well including the algea. One big hermit, half a dozen small ones, bristle worms, a baby anemony and polyps is all there is. Except for the hairy algea taking over the glass and some of the rocks. The ones that the crabs dont patrol. Just above 9 o`clock`is a new patch of hairy algea. The red shows thru it.

A 5 point test strip and NH3 were ok. Connected a protein skimmer temp expecting to see a sea of foam and nothing. I hate to lower the light. Only a 60 watt CF spiral and a couple of worn out 24" grow lights are all ther is. Maybe just more algea eaters ?

Replace the "worn out grow lights" with some marine tubes. Old lights promote algae growth. If you don't have any snails in the tank then you could try adding a few, they'll help clear the algae on the glass aswell as on the rocks.

Yea, thats along the lines I was thinking. The color of the light, especially from the CF spiral is toward the red end of the stectrum. Actually yellowish and not potent in the blues that are provided by MH lamps. So basically the color is off and it just so haoppens that it favors algae growth ? right ?

Agree with Lotus, time to get some Marine lights.
