How long has the system been up?
How long have you had those fish?
What recent changes have there been?
What kind of signs of ich are you seeing?

Ich often shows up easier in the morning because the fish have been sleeping and often near the sand.
I'm a big believer in removing all your fish to a hospital tank and treating there while letting a main system go fallow. An exception would be if you had a FO with no inverts. In that case I'd run hypo in the display.
That doesn't mean the ich is why you lost your PBT, unless it was a bad case I'm a bit surprised. With what you described, if it was me I'd write Bob Fenner and his crew over at wetwebmedia.com and see what they had to say.

ich can infect the gills this is where it tends to do unseen damage..but affects the breathing.
