What meds are you using?

My male has beaten and killed his fair share of mates for not breeding in his time.

I have found maroxy to be a good remedy. Depending on what is wrong. It's potent stuff but it does the job. I also raise the temp in hospital tank. It seems to help.

Maicide is also good.
As is clout each for there individual problems.

Sorry Jinks.

I thought you knew.

It is MarOxy from Mardel Labs.
Best of luck.

Its probably because you are in properly breeding them in a undersized tank. You should just flush it down the toilet and count your blessings

I would use quickcure, aquarium salt, and melafix. With the quickcure, you can net the fish out, lie it on a paper towel or something, and put a drop or 2 of quickcure directly on the wounds (obviously not mouth wounds or something, but you can with fin/body wounds). Also, add the recommended dosage of quickcure to the water everyday along with putting it directly on the fish.

yeah we have some **** lying around like the stuff you guys suggested apparently.. been throwing that stuff in.. She's been alive like this for about 4 days now.. The fungus crap looks like its just flaking off in a lot of places.. Her colours apart from the fungus are GREAT though.. weird.. i hope it's a sign of recovery :)

Maybe ill throw her in with the jewel pair when she gets better.. apparently she doesnt want to put out anymore haha..

Not true!

I have had much worse pull through.

Jinks just be patient and careful.
Keep the meds up following the instructions to the "T"

Two days of the Maroxy and those tuffs will visabley better.

chevyII: What are you talking about????? http://216.40.249.192/s/cwm/3dlil/nonono2.gif

Were they a mated pair? Did he choose her or did you just throw them in together. JD's are very particular in mate choosing. I gave mine 4 to choose from. He didn't want any of them. beat them all up. Not bad but enough to have them all hiding under the filter. I brought them back and put in a few new ones. He chose his mate and tried to kill the other two.

Rollin: At this point pulling the fish out and manually medicating will probably do more harm then good. You are just asking to stress out the fish and that will only cause some sort of secondary problem. Infection parasite attack etc...

they've had babies 3 times.. every time he beat her up worse than the last. This time it looked like she was standing up to him.. but when my g/f woke up she found her stuck to the filter with almost no tail and figured she was dead.! scooped her out and she moved a bit so into the hospital she went.. She kinda tries to swim around.. but hasnt tried ot eat yet.. :( BUT she looks better than she did.. although there is still that fungus crap all over her..

Any idea if it can move from the outside of her to the inside?

What will usually happen if not treated is the fungas will cause a secondary infection in the fish. Only because the fish is so weak it will not be able to fight anything off.

Treat her and give a couple of days to rest. Feed very little. This way if she does get hungery she will have something but there won't be enough to cause the water to go bad from all the rotting food.

You might want to get yourself a tank divider and place a angled piece of slate next to it. This way they can still breed. Or let the male in with the female short spurts. Keep an eye on him. if he starts to get pushy put him back on his side.

Since they are a mated pair it would be a shame to let her go. Mine has killed 3 of his mates and everytime it gets harder and harder to find him another one.
