I am shortly going to be setting up my first saltwater tank and i was just wondering if you guys could just let me know a few things, (the tank will either be an 8 or 14 gallon tank.)
What fish would do well in that size and are easy for beginners?
What should i put in it thats easy to maintain (coral, live rock etc...)
any other tips would be greatly appreciated.

I have 3 freshwater tanks so i am not new to the whole fish ting.

thanks a million

Hello and welcome to the salty side. Im by far no expert but I will help you out all I can. In a tank that small hate to say but not going to be able to keep maybe 2 fish at the most. Check this link out for stocking ideas for the tank size you have. http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/scateg.cfm?pCatId=2124

About live rock they say 1lb to 1.5lb per gallon is good.

Before you get corals make sure you have the correct light for them. Some good corals to start out with are mushrooms, zoos.

Welcome to salt. =)

For fish you'll want to stick to smaller nano sized fish. This site is a good starting place for learning a few of the more common ones: http://liveaquaria.com/product/scateg.cfm?pCatId=2124

You could also stock inverts like shrimp, feather duster worms, etc.

The rock will be easy to care for. =) Once the tank is established you might want to start with some mushrooms and zoas. Which corals you'll want to keep will depend on the lights you have.

There are some great sticky threads in this forum for new salt tanks. You might also give this thread a read: http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=118995 Everyone here is very helpful and your experience in FW is a plus.
