View Full Version : can fertilizers used growing terrestrial plants cause nitrites?

I'm curious. some plants I've been interested in come potted in organic soil... and I'm wondering if this will contribute to nitrite levels in a paludarium environment.

If the soil contains a lot of organic material (which it should if it's organic) it can add to the bioload of the tank yes.

I think it would be wise to carefully remove the plant from its pot roots and all, rinse off the potting soil, and replant in your aquarium substrate.
