I was wondering what kind of loach would be appropriate for a 10g and eats snails. The tank has a gravel substrate and is fully cycled. There are: female betta, 3 zebra danios and a guppy.

10 gallons is too small for any loach species.

Would the dwarf species not work with a 10g?

Some sources say you can keep kuhli loaches in a ten gal. I am not sure at this point.

I would recommend against it.

Never buy a fish with the intentions of giving it away when its larger.

And anyways, a 10 gallon is too small for any loaches. If you really want to gt rid of snails, place a blanched zucchini in the tank and leave it overnight. in the morning when its covered with snails, take it out of the tank.

If people could get out of this mind-set of using loaches as snail eaters rather than as an aquarium resident in their own right many would receive the proper attention they deserve. Same thing as using Plecs as "scavengers". All they end up doing is creating more poop.
You could at a pinch keep a couple of small kuhlis in a 10g for a while, but they won't eat snails, plus they're better off in a larger group in at least a 20. Any other loach is a total no-no in that size tank.

Yeah that's true...You should get a loach or pleco because you want one, not because you need pest control, algae eaten or a scavenger fish./

your better off removing them yourself rather than getting a fish that will get to big.

Wait...Kuhli loaches should be kept in groups of twenty?. This contradicts what I read the min. group size of three. Does anyone actually keep twenty kuhli loaches?.

I agree with you totally :)

I think he said a group (3+) in a bare minimum of 20G tank...

First of all, is it a large population of snails? If the snails have overpopulated, then it would be best to bait the snails with some veggies and find out what is causing the overpopulation. Generally, it is caused by having too much food.
