Its getting close to me getting my tank. about one month away. since im using the bio-spira, ill have the fish sooner than i planned. couple of equipment questions and the next post i do should have picture of my tank.
my 15 gallon tank will be holding the following:
- 6 panda cories
- 1 male dwarf gourami
- 6 bloodfin tetras
- some cherry shrimp

so heres my questions:
1. is the python syphon really worth the extra money or should i get a normal gravel cleaner?
2. what kind of test kit should i get, strips or the liquid? is this a good enough kit http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Produ...e-_-Testing_Equipment&subref=AA&N=2004+114130
If so, should i get a 25 count or 100 count?
3. How many pounds of gravel are needed to be suffiencient for a 15 gallon tank? Is there a certain kind of should get given the fish and the fact that i will have live plants?
4. What kinds of food should i get since i know cories need different food then the rest?

Thanks a lot guys. you made this possible for me to achieve and i appreciate anyone who ever answered any of my thousands of questions. Thanks!!

:iagree:

Also, those RCS will be an expensive snack!

If you really want shrimp, try the ghosts first and see if they survive. It may sound cruel, but at 49 cents vs. $2-3 each it's a much cheaper test!

thanks. ya i think i will go with ghost shrimp. maybe ill make it 5 tetras and 5 cories. i know its not a big change but i think it wont be overstocked, atleast thats what alot of people told me.

unless you really love cories there, isn't a need for so many in there. purely because they are going to be bumping into each other in such a small tank and there is only so much food on the bottom.

I would recommend 2 cories, 6 tetras or whatever small schooling fish, 1 dwarf gourami, and maybe 2-3 Oto's to help eat algae on plants, glass, etc.

I've had ghost shrimp many times. longest they have ever lasted is about 2 months.

10-20 lbs should be enough to fill the bottom of your tank in terms of gravel. hopefully, you have the right light bulbs for your plants and more then just regular substrate for your plants.

remember not to add all those fish at once. you'll totally kill them all that way with an ammonia spike. you want to add about 2-3 at a time then wait over a week before adding more.

you probably already know that. I just wanted to mention it in case.

The pythons are def. worth it, just keep an eye on the suction power since there are some small fish and not a whole lot of water in a 15G.

the reason for so many cories is because everyone says a group of 4 or more. this may sound stupid, but as far as feeding, how often do i feed them? just by observation?
also, the plants will be low light plants, and i was unsure what kind of substrate to get if any is needed. most likely i will get crypts, or java fern.

if i get four cories, and 2 otos is that too much?

i liek that stocking list and i think you'll be fine... pandas stay fairly small, and the more of them together the more fun they are to watch. stay with the 6 IMO.

i really dont see your need for the python for only a 15 gallon tank, that thing is kind pricey, and a 15 gallon tank isnt exactly a pain to fill or do WCs with.

definately get the API liquid test.

go with about 15 lbs of gravel.

corys will eat leftovers, and its always good to throw in a shrimp pellet every now and then for them.

davexstumpe, thanks for your response. are you referring to the cories and oto stocking, or just cories. and i agree with the python. 15 gallons isnt a big deal IMO. but i havent done this yet

well you could really do either, but i'd go with the 6 pandas.

and i would suggest staying away from the python until you get a bigger tank, it'll be a waste of money unless you have 30 gallon + aquarium IMO.
