I have read a few posts on this topic and I have seen options sway in both directions. Personally, I would like to have both, but I'm not stubborn enough to do so if it is ill advised.

Specifically: Scalare (Veiltail) and non-wild Discus

I'm asking for opinions and a vote :D

Thanks all!

Angels and Discus do not go together! You will need two tanks to keep both. Good luck...

it has and can be done..but with some caution.
In general, angels tend to be a bit more aggressive at eating time than Discus.
but....I raised angels with Discus..they did fine..the discus are now larger than the angels and will push the angel out of the way .

a couple things to keep in mind..qt the angels and the discus and treat for parasites(angels have been carriers for camillanus and capillaria) discus tend to prefer warmer water than angels but the angels can handle 84 with no real issues.

watch for aggression issues..typically you may have to remove dominant angels(tho they actually tend to target other angels more than discus)
they dynamics willl change as the fish grow..the discus will get larger than the angel..and they can hold their own.
both species will handle the frequent water changes well

Great info as always Star ;)

I'm not looking to "make it work" or to reach. My first concern is the stress that may be caused un-necessarily here. I currently, have an old male Angel and a 10 month old pair (m/f). I think this answers my question in that I would need ot either hope for a good connection with OLDER Discus, or establish a new Discus species only tank.

I actually introduced a wild peruvian scalre to a tank of established domestic discus.they are getting along fine.
when I first did a discus /angel set up.. I was forced to introduce adult angels in with young discus. the edge went with the discus as they came from discus that had spent most of thier lives with angels.
they did fine..but the catch was..these discus were not shy..compred to other discus I have they are aggrressive.

LOL..breeding cichlids tend not to make great tank mates..

altum , scalare etc will both do well...
altums in general are tough to keep...but would make good tank mates given the need for water maint.

Assuming you have a pretty large tank, the angels and discus will live together without much problems. However, If they're both kept in a smaller, more crowded tank, problems will definitely arise.

lol, I voted and its 10 to 10....BTW I say yes, I have done it with no problems. I have only done it in aquariums >100 gallons
