I am planning to upgrade my tank late this month and was wondering if anyone had recommendations on tank sizes. I want something that would be able to house most commonly sold marine fish (tangs, etc) but not something that would be a hazard weight problem. Any advice on upgrading is welcome. I will buying it used so any advice on that as well would be great.

The smallest recommended tank for any Tang is 75G, many recommend 100G+.

I been looking at tanks of various sizes and I want to keep a mixed reef tank, researching lighting has been very informative. In most cases, a 4' fixture is the same price as a 3' fixture, sometimes even the 4' is cheaper. So, if your looking to upgrade and want to keep some Tangs I would look at the 75G or 90G tanks.

So a 90G would be able to handle most commonly sold marine fish? I was going to use the most often suggested tank size as my minimum when I started looking for used tank setups.

When you start to move into the realms of tanks around 100 Gal, weight issue is always going to be a big concideration...

I would not recomened anything less that 100Gal to give you great scope of fish that you can house..However, there are even some commonly sold marine fish that 100 gal is still too small for...

I suppose the question to be asked is what fish do you specifically have in mind?

I agree, get together a "wish stocking list" and then we'll be better able to help you decide on what size tank you want or what might be a better stocking idea.

Thats a great idea. I would appreciate then if you guys could keep a watch on this thread so I can gather a list (will place one up within a couple of hours). I am aiming for semi reef safe fish and maybe small docile schooling fish.
