In my 40 Gallon tank I currently have 2 ocellaris clowns, an algae blenny, a yellow watchman goby and a yellow tang - am I fully stocked or could I add a small wrasse? If not, is there a starfish I could add that would be suitable?
I also have a 20 gallon nano that I am about to start stocking, I already have in there a cowrie, 2 blood shrimp, 5 small turbos, 6 red legged hermits and several corals. I would love a black and white clown but my lfs rarely have them in, was also thinking banggai cardinal and or fire fish/goby - ???
Here's few pics of the nano so far, can someone tell me what type of leather it is in last pic?
Be honest with opinions - I won't be offended!!

I'd say the 40g is DEFINITELY stocked, as tangs can get rather large over time, and are generally recommended for larger tanks. I'd focus on more coral in that tank.

The 20g could probably take another fish or two, IMO.

When you say another fish or 2 do you mean as well as black and white clown or just as well as what is already in there? I'm aware tangs get big and am keeping a close eye on mine, It is swimming around happily, eating really well and it's colour is stunning. I do hope to upgrade to bigger tank within 12 months so hopefully we will be ok, I thought I was full in that tank though!
I have found an lfs with black and white clowns in now so may pay them a visit tomorrow, this may sound stupid but is a black and white clown just a black perc?

I meant in addition to what you have right now. Maybe get yourself a pair of clowns and call it good for your lil tank.

And for the big one, i wasn't playing tang police and saying you shouldn't have that in there, but rather saying your fish will grow to be enough in the tank, and you don't really want to start having problems as they grow and their territory expands...as well as their pooping habits.

Oh, and yeah, onyx clowns, I believe are specially bred percs. I read up on them a bit, but can't really remember the whole story. A clown is a clown is a clown though, unless it's maroon with gold stripes...then it's just a real mean clown that's hard to pair up.

Sorry did I sound a bit defensive - didn't mean to! As far as the nano goes I will either o for a pair of black and white clowns or 1 black and white and a goby or blenny. Would the cowrie be better off in big tank rather than nano - it's about 2.5" in length?

You need to consider the water the rock displaces and deduct that from the capacity of the tank. With the rock you have in the 40 and the sand deducted, I'm guessing around 25 gallons of water give or take. I wouldn't add anything but corals.

I have after allowed for rock and sand displacement, I measured the water as it was added to tank when setting up. Even though I have added 1 or 2 pieces of rock since then they were only small so won't have made any difference really.

Personally, after having a single clown for a month or so, and then getting another, they are MUCH more interesting with a buddy.

Actually, even more interesting with two buddies, another clown and something with stinging tips. ;)

But, that's just my opinion.

I must agree actually! I love watching my 2 false percs playing in big tank - ane day I hope to have a nem to go with them but for now they seem to be content with their leather coral! Do I have to have MH lighting for nems, my tank's not mature enough yet but it's handy to start thinking about it now.
