So I have 2 questions. 1. Im selling 2 of my cons to a LFS in my area because when I got them I didnt know how fast they have babies and my cons are starting to breed again. Oh yea I still have the first 100 fry!

I want to get new tank mates for the remaining 2. What do you think I should get? My g/f likes jewels and I like firemouths. I would love to have an oscar or two but I cant get a bigger tank because we live on the seccond floor. I would like to stick to ca and sa cichlids.

question 2 I have 3 agressive angels. can I put them into my con tank to slow down the breeding untill I have time to sell two of them? I was thinking of selling them on saturday. I just dont know how long I have before they lay eggs.

thanks ~mike

I don't think the angels will really help and u mite even lose one or two if u put them in there with the convicts. unless ur getting a bigger tank the oscar really won't work cause a 55 gallon is about right for one oscar by himself.

FireMouths are fine with Convicts.

FMs are ok with cons. dont put angels in there. they are probably being aggressive because they are overcrowded. a 30 gallon is not enough space for 5 angels.

Ok. what about jewels? will they be fine with cons? we were hoping to get some colorful cichlids. does anyone have any suggestions on what else to buy?

No, jewel cichlids are from africa, and mixing sa/ca cichlids with africans doesnt work well. some people will say do it, but theyre from 2 different areas and need different water parameters.

Maybe some white Convicts, not the pink ones, but there is an actual white strain of Convicts around.

Or maybe a single Green Terror Cichlid or single Jack Dempsey.

Put the remaining breeding pair of cons in the 30. Transfer the angels and pleco to the 55. The angel aggression you are seeing is likely the result of being in too small of a tank.

In addition, your 25 is heavily stocked. You could lighten the load there by moving the cory, hatchets and danios over to the 55.

Yea I think someone got caught dumping Jack Dempseys in a lake around here. They got too big for them.

Hmmm all it takes is one moron to ruin it for the rest of us. Well try firemouths or white convicts.

Dempsey.

Not quite true.

Jewels are from Africa, however, they are not from the rift lakes. They are from the rivers and creeks of west africa and require basicaly the same water parameters as CA's.

Why do people try to mix fish from 2 different area's of the world? Why tell someone to go ahead and do it?

Also it is true, yes their water parameters are a bit, main word BIT, of the same water parameters, however the Jewels are known to like a little bit lower of a ph than a Convict.
