ok I've been noticing alot of dempsey aggression issues being discussed and im starting to believe im seriously the only one on this board who has a nasty Jack with a serious chip on its shoulder. So if you own a jack you don't even have to make a long post just state whether he/she is docile or ready to claim rulership of the entire tank.

Did you miss my post about my female being half torn to pieces lol.. Dont get me wrong.. my male is a bad ***.. BUT there are tons of fish who could hold their own! I dont have many hiding places in my tank right now as they were fine for about a month! Big male JD gets his own tank now! but not a huge 55-65 like you stated hehe.. Maybe he'll get a new home when he starts to hit 6-7".. but i hear thats when they really start to slow down on the growing...

He jumped FAST from 3-4 ".. but has seemed to slow down a bit as of late! Maybe the old myth of the fish grows to fit the tank will come into play for me haha..

I think my jack knows im talking about her lol. Since I have posted this she has allowed the con to come and hang around her while she looks around for food. That is very odd too because she usually seems to hate him always flaring at him and taunting. She is 4" as i've said before and very much more aggressive than your average female. She has a 55 gallon sharing with a 2.5" male con and 6" common pleco at the moment. Recently I have added a 5" red tiger oscar to the mix to see what happens and they leave him alone. I am letting the gold saum (green terror) get some size on it in the other 55 before I put the oscar back in there, of course that is if the jack or con doesn't try to dispatch him themselves. I really need the big hoss up and running soon.

ok thats what I thought, I knew a female shouldn't have that much coloration as he does. Nice male, thats a shame about your female.

ya she might recover :/ I doubt ill buy another if she doesnt.. Cant find them anywhere anyway. No body wants them!

Actually their colouring was very similar in the past few weeks.. she got on some nice sparkles like when i first got them! when the were about 2" she OWNED the tnak.. then one day he kicked the crap out of her and within a week he was like half an inch bigger haha.. ( she started out as the bigger fish )

i had mate with a JD in a 160gallon with a tinfoil(fully grown)and the JD was so scared of it and the barb was as placide as a molly you might say the JD was 10" but was still scared stiff as the barb swam past lol queer i wonder why. He was a home breed JD also could that affect it at all??

I had a male years ago killed everything I put in the tank. So this time I got a female. Just as mean. She's just right at 6 inches now. But I think the difference is she just dominates the other fish instead of killing them. When she swims by they know to get out of the way. Except the con, poor little fellow he tries. Tim

i would say most definately! I had a breeding pair of JD's (3 -4") and a rhino pleco ( 4-5" ) And he was fine! got the occasional nip on his fin but othr than that no problems.. thats ina 33 GAL tank..

BUT i took out the rhino and eventually the JD wanted some nookie when wifey didnt. .and shes almost dead now.. yada .. luck of the draw!

looks to me like a mixed scenario dbcb. I'd be cautious with it. I don't care what anyone says. A jack dempsey has a reputaion for a reason so the ones that may be docile for you may not be the same one staring you in the face at the lfs waiting for you to bring it home to terrorize your current occupants.
