Hi all i am just in the process of cycling a 30 gallon FOWLR tank.

It was started on Tuesday using a raw prawn.
Here are my stats so far.

Ammonia.....0.50
Nitrite.....0.25
Nitrate..... 20
PH.....7.8
Salinity.....1.025
Temp.....79

Should i take out the prawn, or should i leave it for a few more days yet?
It has been in the tank since Tuesday and its starting to smell YUK now.
Will post a pic later this evening.

Thanks.
Liz.

I cycled with a dead shrimp and left in until the ammonia reached somewhere around 2

You're already showing some nitrate in the tank. That's good news. I would also keep the prawn in there until you don't see ammonia and nitrite. Also, consider using a buffer to increase that PH a little bit. Somewhere between 8.0 and 8.3 should be good.

What salt are you using out of interest?

Thanks for all the replies guys.

Not much change with the stats today.
Ammonia... 0.50
Nitrite up from yesterday to 0.50
Nitrite 20
Ph still low will add a buffer today to bring it up a little.

Not in any rush to stock it until we come back from our vaction to Florida, which is still 4 weeks away.:)

where could i get a raw prawn? i have been forced to use fish food, and a light to stimulate the colonies. I need a better way.

Also how soon could i add a live rock, i heard as soon as i get my salt levels good.

From the fresh seafood section of your supermarket or asian market. In my opinion you can add live rock now if your salt is mixed to 1.023-1.024. No need to do that slow by the way. You can mix it straight in the display the first time you set the tank up.
