Hello All.
Went to a lfs today, one that we're not too impressed with thus far. He was trying to build his customer database and gave us a few mini frags from some corals. We also bought a frag for about $6. Hopefully it will be worth it...

Anyway, my question is, if his tanks aren't in great shape, is it possible or likely that we will bring home any unwanted diseases or parasites on the corals. We're acclimating right now and we tested his water...super high nitrates... We're not putting his water in our tank, but can the corals themselves carry anything bad?

So far we have only bought from one supplier, who we love and trust, and our tank is going great. Hopefully these new additions wont scar our tank...

Thanks!
-Jenn

Yes, many QT corals just as they would fish. Corals can bring in red bugs, pest nudibranches, sundial snails...even ich if it is on substrate. Many recommend a dip in addition to the QT. What kind of coral frags did you get?

Hmmm. Good to know! Thanks!

I'm not reallllly sure on what we got... But the one we paid for is a zoa and so is one of the free ones. I'm not quite sure about the other free one. I'll get pictures up as soon as they open up a little.

Some of the pests are really tiny. In fact, check out these eggs I missed even when I took the original shot:

have to admit, i have never quarantined a coral, just give them a dip...anything that is lurking in there should soon be erradicated....
