hi
i hav kept and bred kribs for about 7months and they hav bred 6 times.
i started off with 2 krib(one male and one female) and 5harliquin rasboras for dither fish. with in one week i had babies and the parents killed all the rasboras when the fry started wonderin around the tank. the pair were great and i did not hav any problems with them fighting...so i did not worry bout gettin more dithers. anyway about 2 months ago the pair wernt layin any eggs and they would hide all the time. i thought they were just havin a break so i left them to it. another 2 weeks later there were still no eggs and i wanted to find out y. all water params were fine so this wasnt the case. i went away for a week and the pair dug a whole(like they did with all the other babies)behind a pot. and they laid there eggs there. i thought this was odd. then the pair ate the fry after they were free swimming. they had never done this so i thought that i was stressin them out too much. so i did a w/c and re-arranged the tank to try and let em hav a few places to hide. i added a rock in to the corner and i put the pot on an angle in the gravel to close up the gap to go into the pot. the hhid in there all the time so today i thought i would give em a confidence boost and add in some dithers. this tyime i use 2 sailfin molly fry who are continually on the move in my other tank. i hav 12 but i only put in 2 for if they were to be killed again. which i hope they wont.
the sailfin molly are about 4cm and really quite. well any way they made the mistake of goin down in front of the cave and my male chased them off. they hav been in there about 3hours and the kribs hav coloured up and are venturing around the tank now...chasing the mollies and diging holes under the rock i put in the corner. the female is quite colourful and the male is too.
my question is should i leave the molly fry in the tank and risk them being killed or should i leave them in the tank they came from??
i am not sure if the pair hav any eggs as i cant see into the pot and there are no fry in the gravel in the pot.
do u think they will breed soon?
also when the eggs(when i get some) hatch the fry will sit in the gravel. should i put somthing in the tank so that the fry will not sit in the gravel or leave it how it is? will the fry die if in the gravel?
i hav never had this problem before as the pot was on its side and the fry would just sit in the pot.
thanx all in advance
