My hubby saw what we think is a bristleworm stick it's head out of one of my rocks the other evening. It's orangish, and we think it's a few inches long. I didn't get a good look at the body, but DH says it looked like "railroad tracks." I have found several tiny bristleworms in my socks in the past.

I have been reading, and can't decide if I should try to get it out or not. Would you? It doesn't ever seem to leave it's little grove in the rock (I can always see part of it's tail sticking out). I don't want to kill anything unnecessarily, but I also don't want it to be munching my crabs or fish...

If I want to get rid of it, will it come out if I do a freshwater dip to the rock?

it is fine to leave in the tank...they are harmless feeders and are a great addition to your cleanup crew....you will notice plenty more as time moves on with your system....

i spotted one the other night - this was the first i spotted - since looking for it again i have spotted around 50 of all different sizes - from 2 inch to a couple of millimetres.

i trick mine sometimes - if you turn all the lights out for about 20 minutes - then turn the light back on you will see them quickly dash back in - i dont do this often though because it may stress them and other things in the tank - i only did this to see how many there actually were.

p.s - is this mainly american people on this site?

how do you get bristleworms in your socks?

It is predominantly used by people from the US yes....
