I have a problem with a juwel rio 400 that I purchsed recently secondhand.
The tank is watertight, but when filling it a little while ago just as the tank got to about 1" under the top surround, all of a sudden both Braces poped and came away from the front rim of the tank. There was about 5/8" gap when the braces came away
So I quickly emptied it to about half way and the front has gone back to join the braces.
Any suggestions on the best way to deal with this problem.Would it be possible to re brace with glass?
Could really do with some advice on this as I am really concerned now and may decide to scrap the tank anyway if people think the safety of the tank has been seriously affected.

Cheers Joe H

Did the whole top rim come off or did the braces break? If the rim came off, it is POSSIBLE to reattach it. Maybe silicon - others would have to tell you.

If the braces broke, you may be the proud owner of a new reptile tank.

Thanks for the Quick reply.
The braces are a plastic bar that seem to attach under the top rim.
The braces came away from the front of the tank with a loudish short of pop.
Would it be possible to re brace the tank with glass braces?
Although in veiw of the fact that it is holding 400 litres I am not sure how happy I would feel about keeping this tank now.Unless I could be sure it would be safe.

I will have to defer to someone who knows more about that than I do. Repairing that would make me quite nervous, though.

The tank was purchased secondhand recently so there is no warranty on it.
The tanks was made in 2002 according to the sticker under the top rim.
It has been empty for 9-12 months prior to me getting it.
And before that it was used since new as a discus tank.
I think I will have a chat with Juwel in the morning and see what they say.
But it does not look hopefull as I am not sure I want to take the risk with it,evenafter I have resealed it,It sits in our lounge and it is were to go 400l all over the floor is not going to cheer up my wife one bit.

sounds like the braces were broken during handling, and the previous owner superglued them back on. Re-bracing with glass is a good option, or running an external frame around the top of the tank, the options are pretty extensive really. If they glued it there at the factory, there's no reason you can't glue it at home. I'd think silicone for an adhesive, but you may need to thoroughly clean, or even replace the brace that's in there right now.

Thank you for all the replies regarding this.Since posting I have spoken to juwel, and they were very helpful and even assured me that the braces are not a major structual part of there tanks and that it would not burst, which did concern me.
Anyway they have sent me out some new braces and the adhesive they use to attach them in the factory.so the tank is now rebraced and full no bow at all.just starting to cycle and plant it now.

Good deal! How about a pic of that repaired tank?

WOW thats pretty sweet, i wont think twice about purchasing Juwel products now.
