Cool pics at http://www.cichlid-forum.com/photogallery/ . Select "Malawi haplochromines" from the drop down menu, the click on the link to Nimochromis livingstonii. They have several pictures of males and females. I have a male that is perpetually in breeding colors.

I guess I have a livingstonii which is really cool. My question is that I have two of these and the one always stays yellow and black but the other changes to a near solid yellow to a yellow with black patches. Is this a sign of breeding. Also how can i determine gender.

I can't help you on the sexing of the livingstonii. How big are they? I'd guess they may still be juveniles...
I hope you have a good sized tank, though. My Nim. livingstonii is at least 10" total length.

Yellow with dark patches? Livingstoni are more white/ivory. Wouldn't it be N. venustus?

The guy at the store said it was a living rock cichlid. Then someone told me a Livingstonii, and someone else said its a N. venustus can some one show me a picture of the last one I named. Also what is the common name for it.
