If you have like a 250 gallon. Not in a 75.

A lot of people successfully keep peacocks with malawi cichlids. But what are your purposes for this tank? If you want to breed than most people recommend a 1m to 3/4f ratio for mbunas. Otherwise if you are looking for just a colorful, active tank, than you can go with just one, maybe two, males of different species. Of course there are no gaurantees.

my purpose first and foremost is a bright colourful tank....breeding would be nice but not my purpose at this time....
i want to keep species numbers low, which is why i'm thinking m/f ratios to keep the peace....any and all suggestions welcome....compatability seems a bit tricky

say 8 yellows (2 m 6 fem) and 4 demonsai ( 1 m 3 fem) and 4 electric blues ( 1m 3 fem) or other sort of african

with good filters of course
my 40 gallon has a 1300lph cannister and a 1200lph internal power filter
i know a complete over filtration to the max but they are happy and have breed
but my rockwork stops me catching the babies
by the way my blue fav zebra looks like a demansoni

I dont think thats a good mix for various problems. The labs are going to be too "nice", the demonsoni stay small and are little devils (and must be kept in large groups to keep down aggression), and Ahlis get big and dont like to have other males in the tank. (So 4 Male Ahlis isnt going to be good.)

I wouldn't recommend keeping less than 10-15 demasoni in the same tank due to their highly conspecific aggression.
12-15 demasoni, and six yellow labs would work in a 75gal. The demasoni will largely ignore the yellow labs. Alternatively 12 demasoni, 4 yellow labs (1m/3f) and 4 red zebras (1m/3f) might work as well. With a well sized group of demasoni gender ratio isn't important.

yes, filtration is fine, i have 2 x 1000l/h cannoisters and an internal at 400 l/h on it...think that should be enough
