I have a 30 gallon FOWLR. I have had an ocellaris clown, yellow clown goby and and royal gramma for quite a while and over the weekend I added a black ocellaris clown. For the first couple days everything was fine--the two clowns hung around each other all the time and nobody made a fuss. When I got home yesterday, however, I noticed that the new (and slightly larger) black clown is chasing the old one mercilessly and nipping a lot. He also sort of swims sideways at him (sort of like gouramis in freshwater). Is this normal or should I get rid of one of the clowns? I just set up a 55 gallon last night so would the best bet be to keep little Nemo in quarantine and put big Nemo in the bigger aquaium when it's cycled? Thanks!

i would probably keep a close eye on them. chances are the new larger clown is just trying to wrestle dominance from the smaller one who has been established in the tank already. however, you didn't mention their size nor their age... clowns start out unsexed, and introduction can be relatively easy then, but if the smallerclown is a female already, chances are they'll never get along.

Yeah...I would just see if they work it out. If after a few days it still persist, I would not keep them together.

I will keep an eye on them. I just thought it seemed strange that they got along so well at first and now suddenly they don't. They smaller one is about 1 inch long and the larger is about 1 1/2. I'm not sure how old that makes them...
