Think I found answer to my own question,,,according to compatability chart at liveaquaria, plecos ok, use caution with the others.

It really depends on what type of cichlid you are talking about... There is such a huge range of cichlids out there... you have to be more specific... ;)

What type of cichlids do you keep with your BN?
Some cichlids are very NON aggressive... some are VERY aggressive...
Like i said, it just depends...
if you looking for some cichlids that would go with plecos ... that would be a better question to ask...
I have keyhole cichlids in my 75gal mudskipper / community tank. They are quite peacefull....

african cichlids and very large or very aggressive american cichlids do not do well with plecos. they can easily pluck their eyes out, which is the only part of a pleco's body that is vulnerable. (aside from their soft bellies - pirahnas will flip plecos over if they get hungry enough, but cichlids won't go that far)

I'd have to agree. The only cichlids I would put with plecos are VERY peaceful africans (which there are very few of) and dwarf cichlids from SA (apistos, rams, keholes).

A lot of Plecos will do fine with most cichlids.

I have a 6" Pleco in with my EBJD and Jack Females, they all leave him alone. I use to have FireMouths in with the Pleco, and the Pleco would harass the FireMouths more then they cared to harass him. So it all depends on the individual fishs temperment.

gibbicep (sailfin plecos) do ok with the more aggresive CA's
Just make sure they are about as long as the biggest Cichlid in the tank

I also have 2 Albino Cory Cats in my 55g tank with the EBJD, and they do just fine, again it all depends on each fishes temperment.

i had to rescue my pleco from my cichlid tank, then i had to rescue one of my cichlids. now they are living together cautiously, the yellow with black on the dorsal fins hides a lot, sometimes annoys the pleco, and vice versa. they are in a 30+ tank, lots of hiding spots. the pleco used to have torn fins.

I have a blue phantom pleco in w/ a decent size severum w/ absolutely no probs.... and I have a clown pleco in w/ an angel and the little clown actually is the aggressor. lol It chases the angel away from the sinking pellets all the time.
