I take this as a no, but I figured I'd ask as I plan on getting 1 or 2.

never had a single issue with using this type of snail...they spend most of their time buried in the sand munching on detrius or enjoying a little algae....

Okay awesome. That's why I wanted to get one or two. My sand is getting kind of gross and it looks unkept. My hermits don't bother with it too much anymore. I want something to bury and move the sand around a bit. Thanks!

For your 30 Gal, i would prolly put in about 5 and let them loose on the sand....

I would avoid the sand sifter sea star as most people don't have the best luck keeping one.
I have about 10 of the nasarisus snails in my 55 gallon and they seem to do fine. They usually only come out at night and spend the rest of the time cruising around under the sand.
I'd avoid the sand sifting star in a 30g as well.
The nassarius snails are great for the sand and so are the ceriths which stay small.

I LOVE my nassarius snails. I had some astera snails also, but they kept killing themselves by falling upside down and not being able to turn back over! :wall: I am planning on getting more because I have a larger tank now. You should definitely get some of these. They are also fun to watch during feeding time because they come out of the substrate to "look" for food!

I have 25 Nassarius vibex snails in my 75g. (they're tiny..you could fit 3 of them on a dime)
I also have 3 jumbo mexican turbo snails.(1.5-2" in size)
I ordered 5 striped turbos a few weeks ago, but the supplier has yet to ship them.

I have a sun coral and I haven't had a single problem with my nassarius snails. They are EXTREMELY good at eating left over meaty items before they decompose. I have 5 or 6 in my 58g right now. It's hard to tell, they're only active at night.

Same as Riverserver- I have a sun coral and Nas snails and no problems whatsoever.

I have 6 Nassarius snalis in my 30 gallon. It is sort of cool when they come out from under the sand for a few minutes and then disappear again.
My fish store advised against the sand sifting starfish as well--she said they will soon run out of things to eat and will starve. I don't know how true that is but I decided not to chance it.

ok, thanks for all this input. Question for ya'll. My sandbed is only about 1-2 inches deep. Is this going to be a problem? I assume probably not.
I think I'll get 3-4 of these snails for my tank.

They only need about 3/4 of an inch to be under the sand 100%.

I have the larger nasarissus snails and it's really cool when they stick their atennna/nose/long pointy thing up through the sand. It's almost like little Martians.
