The carbon insert is too long for the basket (it's the one that came with the filter). I removed the bag from the plastic, is there another smaller bag inside of that one or what?

It just looks long, if its the right one just work it into the holder. its made to be snug. i just cleaned ours today and know what you mean...:)

You really don't need the carbon

I get so worked up about things...well, time to cycle!

Why not just take half the media from the 30 gallon? Instant cycle.

Using a UGF with penguin power head...is there even media in that? I honestly have no idea how I successfully cycled that tank...

Now my BIOwheel is acting odd. Every once and a while it runs out of water in the resevoir but it eventually refills itself...the sound is rather annoying though...

lol...well kick it...always works with my computer, not so sure about filters though, but fitleres are lwoer tech so should work haha
for my ac carbon inserts when i used them, i just plopped all of it down to one side of hte bag and folded the rest.

Ugh, my biowheel stop filling itself, now I have to manually pour water in and it starts sucking up water...could my water level be too low?

the impeller is stopping, my guess is that sand is already getting in it because I still have some floating particles...how should I keep sand from getting in the intake?

Biowheel on an Aquaclear?

What type is it? You sure you don't have a Marineland?

Put a mesh bag over the intake, or a fine sponge.

Can't say I've ever had that problem with my sand tanks.

I have an Hagen AC and a Marineland biowheel... sorry for the confusion, I switched filters on you...

That's really the only reason I can think of. First the water stops, then the motor whines and stops, and then there is a gurgling noise. I checked the impeller housing and there is already some sand particles in there.

I really wished I hadn't added white sand to my existing brown sand. All it does is get attached to air bubbles and float, than get stuck in the filter...
