I need a filter for my fry tank and want to use a powerhead since i already have one lying around. My question is what do i have to do. Just attach a sponge to the input? What kind of sponge and do they make sponges especially for this thing? Or would a AC sponge work.

Any help would be great since i have only had experiences with power filters.

Do you have the powerhead already? Aquaclear makes an attachment for their powerheads, called a Quickfilter. I think Marineland also makes foam prefilters for their Penguin powerheads. They are so cheap I cannot see it being worth the time to rig something...

I already have the power head, its an AC pro 2. I will check ou tthe LFS to see if i can get the quickfilter.

Unfortunately, I don't think the Pro series is compatible with the Quickfilter...I may be wrong.

You can get a sponge, cut an X in one end, and fit the intake into this cut. You may need to bracket the sponge between a wall and the PH, firmly attached, though I haven't seen any problems with mine.

I will check the store to see if they have any sponges that will work. If not i will just get an AC sponge and cut a hole in it and use that.

There are pre-packaged sponge filters that allow for operation with powerheads. I'm thinking of the "Hydro-sponge" line...can't recall the manufacturer. I'm sure if you looked at the sponge filter section on www.thatpetplace.com, you'd see what I'm talking about.

Rubber bands and a nylon stocking cut-to-fit could work..
