What is a good sand grain size to use in a FOWLR tank that will eventually turn into a reef tank? I have read 1-2mm but then I also read somewhere that the smaller, the better. Also, what size is "sugar size?"
Sugar sized looks like sugar you'd see in most homes. Fine crystals. It looks nice in a tank but I prefer a little larger grain to avoid sand storms, especially with a goby in the tank.
This page gives some good comparisons in grades: http://www.marinedepot.com/ps_AquariumPage~PageAlias~substrates_calcium_react or_media_caribsea.html

We just put sand in one of our tanks the other day, I've been considering what grain size to use myself, i settled on the 1-2 mm size and it looks great..........:)
