View Full Version : Locally Available Species You've Denied Yourself
What have you run across locally that you've had to deny yourself and why for each (other than money). Not the normal obvious denies but you had to force yourself to walk out of the store before you weakened.
Mine:
Banded Pipefish. Too much care for me right now.
Seahorse. Same thing.
Flame Scallop. They are soooo gorgeous but eh consider it my boycott to leave them in the ocean.
Anthias. My tank isn't big enough :headshake2:

I would second that for the Anthias. I wanted one so bad but knew I couldn't get one with my size tank.

im pretty much with you with the anthias and flame scallops. too bad too, lyretails are some of my favorite fish. ive almost taken pipefish home, buuuut, with all my flow, i didnt think theyd like it... i feed them 3 times a day at the LFS though.

Lyretails are pretty, had 3, lost at least 1 female, not sure where the other one went, now left with a male (they were sick since the beginning I believe, had them for 2 months). Very pretty fish though.
I'd want a seahorse, and I see black and yellow ones all the time, but know I shouldn't.
Tangs, all of them. Especially yellows, as I lost my last one. I'm waiting until the right moment to buy my new one, so its hard to walk out without it already.

Same here (although mine isn't quite at your insane turnover) plus my tang and goby are such piggies at mealtime the poor pipefish wouldn't have much to eat if it took too much time eating from a pipette.

Yep...the difficult ones always seem to be. The banded pipefish I saw this week were less than $14 each. I've seen the scallops for less than $10. Grrr.

queen trigger- so beautiful and awful agressive (love it) but gets to big.
Sea horse- to docile for my tank and like grins said a lot of work
tankanator, you have some more agressive fish in that tank, how does the mandarin do? I might end up eventually trying one in my tank, i have some predator fish in there, but i think the mandarin could just hide in the caves and what not and be OK.

The Mandarin and Moorish Idol are mine definatley.. Husbands would be the purple tang.. saw one locally priced at £155!!!
I love most butterfly fish, but they grew to darn big and not reef safe.
Just going back to what a couple of people said about the Lyretail Anthias??
We have one in a 42 gallon (UK) male, he is great, beautiful fish, no problems at all very peaceful as well.. when the new tank arrives (When!) still waiting for it.. we are planning on getting a couple of females for him..
They are gorgeous, I just feel they need more swimming room and that my 55g wouldn't be enough.
