has anyone here kept a horned shark before? I knew a guy a few years back that had one successfully for a few years and it was still healthy when I moved.

I know they like colder water and are not very active. I also know they grow to a max of about three feet in the ocean.

They are the most shark looking shark you can buy that actually resembles a shark.

I am thinking of getting a tank to house one in the near future.

So, has anyone kept one that can give some advice or pointers?

Thanks

Chris

While I can't say I've personally keep a Horn Shark(Heterodontus francisci). I've researched them & talked with several people who have kept them successfully(from pup to adult).

The California Horn Shark - isn't the cool water shark that most people believe it to be. Yes - it regularly found along the southern California coast. But the truth is this is the Northern part of it's range. The California Horn full range is from near Santa Barbara, California down to near Southern tip of Baja California, and even into the Sea of Cortez. So the true water temp range for the species - is between 59-81F.

Even studies on Wild Horn sharks(Heterodontus francisci) shows that it seems to prefer water temps above 68F. Also some people have kept Horn Sharks at content temps of 75-78F without any problems.
