There are many types of cichlids not available in my area. I've found several good online fish stores that carry the fish I'm interested in. Does anyone have any experience with ordering fish and having them shipped to their home? Is this a good idea or a bad idea? I need some input.
Thanks so much. :)

I've done it and was happy with the results. Fish are shipped to your LFS in the same way...
I've ordered from Wet Thumb Aquatics with good success (http://www.wetthumbaquatics.com/) .
I've also ordered from Armke's and was satisfied. http://www.ohiexchange.com/armke/

Do you have to acclimate the shipped fish differently than you would if you bought them from your lfs?

I accliment all my fish the same way regardless of where i bought them. I use the drip method. The only thing i do differently is the amount of timei take doing the process. i add take alittle longer with the fish that have been shipped to me. reason. the water they are shipped in they have been in for sometimes over 24hours and im sure the water in the bag is polluted from waste so i do not want to shock them so i add smaller amounts of fresh water to the bag which in turn takes longer.

So you float them in for a while, then after you feel the temperature is the same as the tank water, you add small amounts of water to the bag in increments? How long does the entire process take? I'm familiar with this process, but I haven't had fish delivered before and don't want to take any chances. Thanks for the help AikidoGuy. :)

yup you have it down. I usually remove some of the old water and then add untill the bag is full. never really timed it.. i use as turkey baster to add the water. one shot of that every 10 minutes or so
