Ok I have decided to set up a planted tank, and I was gonna have it stocked with a school of corys, I never relized there was so many most of the shops around me have like 3 types, and I usually have the albino ones. I was planning on 2 types, albino and peppered, so my first question is will different types of corys school together? Now the reason I ask is that I went to a shop today and they had about 10 different types. And I fell in love with one i'm not sure if it was the c. duplicarus or the c. adolfi. Has anyone had any experience with these? I would like to get about 8 corys total and would like at least 2 different types if they will school together.

Cories of different types in general usually don't school together. If you want them to be comfortable (ie. see them out and about more) they should live in shoals of 4-6 of each type at least. If I were you, I'd do some research and find your fav. type and just get 8 of it.

I've heard it go both ways. I've heard different types won't school together, but I've got a group in a 55g that is 10 strong, and had 4 different types, and they all hang out together. One of my types is C Adolfi, but I have no experience with C. Duplicarus. My group is made up of C. Adolfi, Julii, Sterbai, and Araguaiensis. They're always hanging out around each other, but the Julii does seem to be the oddball and wanders off alone alot.

Do you want a school of corys or do you want to breed them?

I dont think it really matters if you have different type for a community tank. Just remember to keep at least 4 or more, best to have at least 6.

If you want to breed you should keep only the same type, and at least 6 - 10 for breeding.

Yeah Dread, I've seen your Julii...he wears a black pocket T-shirt with his smokes rolled up in the sleeve. Not surprising...

...Just...couldn't...resist...:wall: AHHH!!!! had to let that out...

I have 11 C.aeneus and 1 C.paleatus in the same tank. They pretty much hang out together....but I'm considering adding a few more paleatus.

I just want them to be happy. If they breed they breed, I just think 2 types would be a little more visually appealing, and I just really like the corys and i am having trouble even narrowing it down to 2.

Hey Dread, are the are adolfi just as active as the more common types and is the water parameters about the same? The shop that has them by me said they were wild caught and and like softer water. Also do you remember how much you paid for yours?

I'm thinking about going like 5 and 3 of each variey maybe, 6 and 4.
