My featherfins have been looking good lately and I wondering if I should do a spawning attempt with them.

Thing is they are extremely difficult to move and there's no other tank large enough for them to spawn in at the parent's house anymore.
So they'd be in their main tank, which they share with those cichlids.
Unless someone adopts the cichlids, they have no place to go which is why they are in my tank to begin with.

Would I be wasting my time with a spawning attempt under these conditions? or if I put in enough hidey places would it work?. I mean they do have a large tank ratio to fish population...so maybe it'd work?.

I should have realized that spawning synos is a bit too advanced for most aquarists so I guess I'm on my own again with that.

You don't mention their sizes, the type of cichlids, the decor, or that you have even basic knowledge of the species of fish you're looking into working with. Making comments about "being too advanced" is probably not going to get you brownie points or much help either one. You should definitely check out the articles and information in the catelog at http://www.planetcatfish.com . They list breeding as unknown, so when you get more advanced than they are and have a successful spawn, hopefully you'll share your experience.
