1 week tank with bio spira, i add six tetras to the tank. reading were 1 week later and taken today. do i do water changes to keep ammonia level down. Nitrites never showed up. and Nitrates has been the same level from the first test 2 days later after adding Bio spira. Bio Spira was keep cold at LFS and during the ride home. is there some thing wrong or is this normal.

Amm =1.ppm - 1.25ppm
Nitrites = 0 ppm
Nitrates = .25ppm

bio-spira is not a miracle product. used correctly it will make the cycle go faster (1-2 weeks instead of 6-8) but it very rarely creates an instant cycle. you still should be doing water changes to keep toxins down.

go ahead and do a 50% water change.

seeing nitrates is a bit of a good sign. that means that the bacteria that eat up the ammoina and the oens that eat up nitrite are starting to grow. it could take a little bit for everythign in your tank to fully settle down though.

bio-spira is really hit or miss. even though the LFS refridgerates it, the shipper may not. bio spira needs to be refridgerated constantly until it is used.

Did you add bio-spira to a fishless tank and then a week later added the tetras, and testing a week after that?

Or were the bio-spira and tetras added simultaneously and the water test taken a week after that?

:iagree:

I would do a 50% WC ASAP, that will get you to around .75ppm of ammonia and then I would do another 50% WC about 2 hours later.

...and Yes, always do your Water Changes when you have living fish involved. 0.25ppm or under is your goal. This will require numerous water testings (1x a day is a minimum)

i add the bio spira and the fish at the same time. i did a 50% on friday and one more on sunday. will give new readings again on tuesday.
