View Full Version : I think I killed my panda cory babies :(

So I had 6 baby pandas hatch a few days ago, I went into hospital for a few days and had my husband look after them, two died and I got home and checked them, fed them, they all seemed ok, and went off to do something else, when I got back 6 hours later the air line had fallen out and all my babies were dead! I am wondering if they died earlier because they were due a water change today but I hadn't gotten to it til later.

Is this my fault or does it just happen? I have tons of albino cory fry and I know quite a few don't make it just after hatching for various reasons, and as only 6 hatched it does cut down on the odds.. I guess I am feeling guilty and want to know if the air falling out could have killed them? it was only a few hours and it was on so high the O2 content should have been enough to keep them going, I just don't know what to do, I am crushed because there were so few eggs and even less of them hatched this time around, and I do so well with the albinos, but the pandas have always caused me trouble. I finally got a batched that lived long enough to grow up and breed, now this happens! I don't know what to do :'(

thanks all.

was there a filter on the tank? shouldnt have died so fast if it was o2. adults swim up to the top of the water... not sure if the fry do that also.

no filter, but I do water changes every other day with water from a filtered fry tank, they were due to move to a real tank tomorrow, I am dead depressed.

hard to tell. you could at lest test the water to make sure. could be stress. maybe it was the o2 levels.

I'm wondering if they didn't get a water change when they should have while I was in hospital. Not to push the blame off me, but I guess it could have been anything. Maybe I didn't give them enough microworms, or gave them to many, or it was the o2, or to much or to little water. I had sucked a dead one out earlier, so maybe they stressed out.

I donno. I would go with stress or o2, but there was enough room for them to get to the surface.

it sucks but hope your better and if they spawned once they should spawn again.

I feel a bit better, thanks :)

Yeah, tomorrow is water change day, and it was after the last water change that they spawned, so I have my fingers crossed!

yea you should have another spawning again since they've done it before.

Tough luck on this- I believe pandas are a little more delicate than other cories, and other spawning records say they are MUCH less prolific than other cories. Good luck on future attempts- I'd never bred any cories until my Brochis laid eggs in their quarantine tank so I'm slowly learning to raise fry!
