I have a 10g tank that i could use as the sump under my 30g. I want to hide my heater, and in the future my protien skimmer. Whats the best way to set one up...

I have no idea how it works, like pvc pipes and all that, i would need a basic understanding of one.

Anything would help, ill try to research some more, but i always geting the best info here!! :naughty:

before u posted that, i had just finished reading about the whole article on the sumps they have in there. Looks to complex to build. I thought it would be a fairly simple thing to converate my 10g into a sump. I still might consider it but i dont know...

I guess if i found a way to drain the water into the sump, then a power source to pump it into the tank, i could fabricate something like a sump lol...

Any lfs sell parts like this? Or any sites sell things that could help me get started on a sump?

I need a project for this tank while i wait on the cycle.

feel free to call me crazy at any time in this thread...

What if!! i bought another fulval 205, or smaller if they make em smaller. And i put the 10g under my 30g. Put the intake from the new fluval in the 10g (sump) and the out in the 30g.. took the intake from the old fluval and kept it in the 30g, and the out in the 10g... I would then have the 10g as my sump, and then could make some chambers for refuigm or w/e its called to reduce nitrates. this could cost me 110$ and i would have a sump, with TWO filters!

Tell me whats wrong with this, or tell me im crazy... or im a genius!! :naughty: :naughty: :naughty:

:duh:Not trying to be rude, but your crazy,It will never work because you can not expect both pumps to work exactly the same.If one pump slows or quits working you will have a mess on your hands, even if you buy the exact same pumps,if one pump is pumping from your main tank to the sump it's going to pump more water than the one pumping from the sump to the main tank, because of head pressure.A couple pieces of plexi from the hardware store and some aquarium grade silicone will work for a pump chamber, and inlet chamber, add a overflow box and your done.:y220e:

People usually use gravity to feed their sump from the tank while using a bigger size tubing then the return. Like if you have a pump with a 1/2" return line then your intake to your sump should be a 3/4" line.

But to convert a 10g to a sump is pretty easy and cheap. I went to Lowes and had them make me four 8" x 9.75" baffles for a 10g sump. Picked up some glass glue that said "Aquarium Safe." Whole trip was less than $12.

Just buy all your equipment first, then make the sump. That way you know everything fits!

Already thought so before I read a single word, your avatar gives it away LOL.

Semper Fi!!! :headbang2:

A baffle is used to power the return? And if i used gavity to feed the sump with a 3/4'' tube and the return was 1/2'' wouldnt that make a nasty mess?

Please be more specfic, Anyone got AIM? i would love to chat like that i have more detailed questions than i should be posting...
