After much reading and help from you I am going to replace my Emperor 400 with a more CO2 friendly system. I would like some suggestions on the best filter that will keep the water clear and maintain biological filteration. Some one suggested the Eheim but is it a good biological filter for a tank with six angles and a couple of swords.

go with 2 aquaclear 300 can't go wrong with them

Canister filters have much less surface agitation. My favorite filter is the Rena Filstar xP-3. It has a variable output, and many options on set-up! The price is right too..
You want minimal surface agitation to help keep CO2 from 'venting off' out of your aquarium. HTH
By the way, a 55g is a nice size tank... Good luck, and enjoy! :)
